Ready, Set, Sew!

This is the perfect class if you have never sewn before, or at least not for a very long time. You will learn both hand sewing and machine sewing, and create lots of simple and beautiful items to use, display and wear.

My wish for you is that you discover the joy of making, and gain a sense of achievement in creating something special with your own two hands.

In this class you will learn:

How to thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin.

About all the stitch functions and settings on your sewing machine.

How to place a pattern and cut fabric.

How to sew straight lines, curved lines, and corners.

How to create regular and French seams.

How to make a lining and casing.

Hand sewing techniques.

How to create buttonholes and attach buttons.

When and how to use interfacing.

Top-stitching techniques.

How to sew with minimal pinning.

The best way to press your sewing.

Over the term you will compile a sewing journal with technique instructions and samples you create in class, forming a valuable resource to your future sewing career.

In this class you can create:

Lavender scented drawer sachets

Decorative hair bows

A drawstring bag for your sewing equipment

A pincushion

An envelope cushion for your chair or bed

The projects you complete will depend on your age, interests, and how quickly your sewing skills develop. It is important that you learn at a pace that is comfortable for you. The focus is to learn new skills and techniques and to feel confident in using them. We never want to rush you, nor hold you back.

Classes are for 1.5 hours weekly and cost $300 for a 10 week term. Classes are limited to 7 students to ensure personal tuition.

You can choose to supply your own fabrics and haberdashery to complete your journal and projects, or access Handmade By You studio materials for this purpose at an additional cost of $50.
