Sew Much More!

For the confident beginner, in this class you will build on your basic sewing skills, learning new techniques that allow you to master more challenging projects. You will create lots of beautiful and practical items to use, display and wear.
 
My wish for you is that you gain increased confidence in your sewing skill set, and feel inspired to give your projects a personal touch reflecting your own creative individuality.
 
In this class you will learn:

• About fabric types and uses.
• How to place a pattern and cut fabric.
• When and how to use interfacing.
• How to insert a zipper.
• How to gather fabric
• How to create pleats.
• How to create shape using darts.
• Top-stitching techniques.
• Techniques for sewing knit fabrics.
• When and how to use bias-binding.
• How to sew with minimal pinning.
• The best way to press your sewing.

 
Over the term you will compile a sewing journal with technique instructions and samples you create in class, forming a valuable resource to your future sewing career.
 
In this class you can create:

• A pencil case or cosmetic purse
• A beach pillow
• A sunglasses pouch
• A gathered zipper pouch
• A gathered hobo carry bag
• A pleated tote bag
• An apron
• Colourful bunting
• A mini-backpack

 
The projects you complete will depend on your age, interests, and how quickly your sewing skills develop. It is important that you learn at a pace that is comfortable for you. The focus is to learn new skills and techniques and to feel confident in using them. We never want to rush you, nor hold you back.
 
Classes are for 1.5 hours weekly and cost $300 for a 10 week term. Classes are limited to 7 students to ensure personal tuition.
 
You can choose to supply your own fabrics and haberdashery to complete your journal and projects, or access Handmade By You studio materials for this purpose at an additional cost of $50.
